{From Our Resident Reporter) Saturday. PAHITAUA TENNIS CLUB. nr The annual meeting of the above club was held in St. Peter's Schoolroom last evening. Mr W. Tossw ill presided, and there was a fair attendance of members. The balance sheet submitted was very satisfactory, and showed the club to be in a good position to start this season. The annual tournament was a success, both ■financially and otherwise, and it was decided to hold the tournament this season on the same dates as last, commencing on January Ist, 1910. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:-President. Mr W. Tosswill; Vice-Presidnets, Mesdames Burgess, Bolton, Crewe and Osborne-Lilly; hon. secretary, Mr J. Osborne-Lilly; hon. treasurer, Mr •W. Eccletan; Committee, Messrs R. Uirich, J. G. Swainson, S. Reeves, W. E. Collins and W. Eccleton; auditcr, Mr J. Howard. It was resolved to open the courts on November 6th. and the courts are now ready for playing on The President and Mm J. OanorneLilly promised t. present trophies. Fourteen new members were elec ted. GENERAL.

At the Pongaroa stock sale yesterday Mr W. E. Collins, of this town wielded the hammer for Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd. All the stock except a few heifers were sold under the hammer, wl?ich testifies to Mr Collins* ability as an auctioneer.

Mr W. Tosswill informs me that the rainfall in Pahiatua for October up to the 30th inst. was 4.31 inches. At the local court this morning, in the absence of Mr Turton, S M.. before Messrs J. D, Wilson and W. W. McCardie, J's.P., Thomas Aubne, alias G. Storey, was charged with forging and uttering an order for £ls. After hearing evidence the accused pleaded gui'ty and was committed to the Supreme Court, Wellington, for sentence. Constable Tanner conducted the case for the prosecution. MAKURI NOTES. 1 A "sh'HJt" between the Pongaroa and the Makuri Clubs will take place here on November 9th. In the evening a concert will be held in the hall, when the drama "Withered Leaves" will be staged by the Ponsraroa Dramatic Company, and this will be followed by a dance. The day promises to be quite' a busy one for Makuri. A meeting of the Makuri Sports and Picnic Committee was held last week, when it was decided to try and make (he' sports and picnic on New Year's Day more of a local affair. It was pointed out that in the first place the sports were to be purely local, whereas last year nearly every prize went out of the district. Mr Murray Connor, who is in the employ of Mr Powell, storekeeper, was married on Wednesday last to Miss Lillie Reid, the ceremony taking place at Wellington Mr Connor is a well known footballer in this and the Pahiatua district. Docking in "this district is completed, and some very good percen - tagea of lambs are reported by the farmers. STOCK MARKET. Messrß Abraham and Williams, Ltd.. report on their Pongaroa sale of 29th inst. as follows:—We held our usual monthly sale aa n love, when we had a fair yarding of sheepvahd a good yarding of cattle, and we have to report a successful sale, practically all the stock being sold under the hammer at satisfactory prices. We quote:—F.m. ewes and lambs, 14s; dry ewes, 10s lid. Forward bullocks, £5 10s 6d; 3 year steers, £4 14s 6d; 2 year steers, £3 18s to £4 Is; yearling steer.% £2 6s 6d; fat cows, ,£4 to £4 10s; forward store cows, £2 15s to £3 ss; cows'and calves, £2 15s; springing dairy cows, £4 to £5 15s: springing heifern £3 3s 6d to £5; empty 2 year heifers, £2 13s; yearling heifers,'32s; bulls, £2 Is to £3 ss.
