The Maritime Accidents Bill of McM'Laren, wi.hh has passed its first reading, piv.poses, among other things, that if ;tny passenger on a New Zeahnd s' ijj suffers loss or damage in p;rs n or property by any maritime accirlr'nt he shall be entitled to maintain an action for damages notwithstanding any contract, condition, or notice mada or given to the contrary. The Roman Gntholic Archbishop of Wellington Empowering Bill, which has been read a first time, is to enable the Archbishop to raisa money on the security of church lands to erect a boarding school for girls in Hawkestone street, and school, church and other buildings at Carterton.
