HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Commerce and Tourists" Division has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, da f ed London, 23rd October, 1909: — The mutton and lamb market is quieter, an:l prices are slightly easier. There is less demjnd for retail. Scotch and Dutch supplies are heavy. The beef market is steady, and there is a better demand. Iheavprage price to-day for New Zealand beef is 3§d per lb for hinds and 3d per lb for fores. The butter market is very firm for best quality. The supply falls short of demand, and buyers are anxiously waiting colonial shipments. The price of choicest New Zealand to-day is 119s per cwt, Australian 117s, Danish 1325. and Siberian 107s.

The cheese market is quiet, with no alteration in prices. Nnw.Zealaml cheese, 575.

The hemp market is quiet, but steady, New Zealand good fair grade, on spot, per ton, £27 15s; fair grade, on spot, per ton, £26 15a; fair current Manila, <£27. October-December shipments: New Zealand good fair grade, £27 10s; New Ztaland fair grade, £26 10s; Manila, fair current, £26 10s; Manila output. 22,000 bales.

The wheat market is firmer. New Zealand dtock is small. The market has been favourably affected by inferior qualily of the English new crop. New Zealand long berried wheat, on spot; ex granary, per quarter of 4961b, is 38*3 6d; New Zealand short berried wheat, oil spot, ex granary, per quarter of 4691b, 38s. The oat market is quiet, and an all business doing. Deliveries have greatly exceeded expectations. New Zealand oats, short sparrowbilis, on spot, ex granary, per quarter of 3841b, 20s 6d; New "Zealand oat.=. Danish, ex granary, on spot, per quarter of 3201b,^18s 3d. The bean market is firm owing to reduced supplies. New Zealand beans, f.a.q., new crop, per 5041b, 3 s. ine peas market remains firm, and there is a good local demand.
