A BAILIFF ASSAULTED.

October 22. | Richard White was charged at j the Magistrates Court to day. with assaulting Bucnanan Scott, court j bailiff, when the latter went t» j i cute a distress warrant at White's] house. Scott was explaining, the j nature of his business to Mrs White, J when defendant came up and, ac- \ 1 cording to Scott, struck the bailiff ! on the bead with a piece of wood j and threw him down the steps. i Medical evidence showed that the \ injuries were not serious. j , Defendant said he simply pushed ; Scott out. The Magistrate stated that it was I clear that the Whites were preparing j to quit the house with their belong- j ingß when they were interrupted by j the bailiff. He fined White £5, with | the option of a month's imprisonment i half the fine to go to Scott.
