MASTERTON ASSOCIATION. CARLION v. RIVALS. The Masterton Cricket Association opened the season yesterday, afternoon, Carlton playing Rivals, at Masr.erton. The weather was dull and the light bad. N. Madsen, who was unanimously elected captain of Carkon, won th 6 toss, and elected to bat. The innings realised 116 runs, styles played a splendid innings of " 33. His driving and leg strokes were superb, and he never gave a chance. Six boundaries were down opposite his name. Madsen compiled 30 in nice style, making some pretty strokes. N. Boyd played a patient and serviceable innings for 17. The rest of the team did but little. When stumps were drawn Rivals had three wickets down for 55. Waters played a dashing innings for 20 not out.
