CARTERTON NEWS.

From Our Resident Reporter.

Wednesday. The work of extending the Borough drainage scheme along Rhodes street was commenced this morning. The Wairarapa Brick, Tile and Drainpipe Company, Ltd., held their annual meeting yesterday, Mr J. A. Dudson being in the chair. The balance-sheet and report, which was adopted, showed that a profit nearly iof £3OO had been made during the past year. The directors did not feel justified in recommending the payment of a dividend this year, thinking it safer to write down the property account 5 per cent., and carry the balance to the reserve fund. With the prospects beiore them a substantial dividend was anticipated next year. Messrs W. Downard and J. Moncrieff were elected directors, and Mr J as. Brown auditor. At a meeting of directors held subsequently Mr Dudson was re-elected chairman.
