PAHIATUA NEWS.

Wednesday. A meeting of the Pahiatua-Akitio A. and P. Association was held in the secretary's office laat evening. Mr J. C. Cooper presiding. The notices of motion. (1) moved by Mr Mitchell, that the industrial exhibits be shown on the racecourse, and (2) by Mr W. Toaswill, That the above mentioned exhibits be shown in the Pahiatua Drill Hall, will be discussed at a meeting of the Society on next Tuesday evening. The Prize Fund Committee reported having collected £45 in the district.

The Ngaturi Gun Club is proving decidedly successful, and everything is now in readiness for the opening "shoot," which will take place shortly. FIRST ANNUAL CATTLE FAIR. The first annual cattle fair, held in Pahiatua to-day, conjointly by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd , and Dalgety and Co., Ltd., was a splendid success. The stock entered was of a very good quality, and brought good prices, in many cases in excess of the vendors' expectations. Pahiatua is making its way to t/ie fort, as a stock centre, and is now recognised by stock dealers and farmers as one of the best markets in the Wellington Province, At to-day's fair, the attendance of both local and farmers from other districts was very large, and the twn firms operating had a very busy time of it, the auctioneers being Mr Thos. Boyd, and Mr Frank Evans.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report as follows:—Our entry comprised about 700 head of cattle of all ages and sexes, and the sale resulted in practicaly a total clearance of the whole yarding under the hammer. Prices ranged as follows: —Four year old bullocks, £sl ss; 3 and 4 year old bullocks, £5 7s 6d; 3 year bullocks, £4 Is; 2& year steers, £4 9s; 2 year steers, £3 8s; yearling steers £2 13s 6d; forward store cows, £3 5s to £3 10s; otber store cows. £2 5a to £2 15s; 2 year empty heiiers. £2 5s to £3 ss; yearling heifers, £2 to £2 ss; mixed yearlings, to £2; dairy cows, medium, £3 to £4 10s; dairy heifers in calf, £2 15s to £3 10s; bulls, £2 16s to £3 ss.

Messrs Dalgfity and Co., Ltd., report that at their.cattle fair to-day, 585 head were entered. There was a good sale at splendid prices. Forward bullocks realised £6 14s to £7 4s; 3J to 4yr bullocks, good condition, £5 15s to £5 16s; 3 yr steers, £3 6*; 2Jyr to 3yr steers, £3 7s 6d to £4 15s; 2jyr steers, £3 12s 6d to £3 16s; .2yrateeis, to £3 10s; 20 month steers, £3 6s; 12 to 18 month steers, £3 3s; 12 to 15 month steers, £2 8s; 12 to 15 month, heifers, £2 6s 6d; fat heifers, £3 16s to £4; late sprinigng heifers, £3 to £3 10s.
