Mr George Vesey Allen, representative of Mr Foster Fraser, the weil known lecturer, is at present in Master»on, making arrangements for Mr Fraser's visit here. Mr'W. E. Bidwill, of the WairaYapa, returned fr«»m Sydney yesterday morning by the Ulimaroa. Mr Uiowiil is the owner of the racehorse Provocation, which has been ru«nin<* in Australia recently. MrW. H. P. Barber, ex-M.P. for Soutn Wellington, while getting bis motor-car ready on Sunday morning for a trip down to the wharf, alipped and \ fractured a leg near the ankle. Mr G. W. A. Clark, who has been relieving postmaster at Featherston Murine-the past month, has left for Eketahuna to carry out similar work ttiert. trior to his departure the postal staff presented him with an engraved Bilver-mounted ebony walk-ing-stick, as a token of esteem. Mr C. F, Hill, stationmaster, at Eawera, tnd.formerly stationmaster at Mastert'on for ten years, is now on a holiday visit to,thertown. Mr Hill la lookirg well, arid hopes to enjoy Home Ashing in the district before returning to Hawera. » A pleasirig ceremony was performed among the members of the Masterton Orchestral Society last evf>rti"g. At the conclusion of the practice, the chairman, Mr H. inns, tocik occasion to refer to the coming depaitire of one of their most prominent 1 members, Mr F. W. ■ G-, McLeod, who had accepted an important 1 musical appointment in Australia. He pointed out Mr McLeod's valuable services in the orchestra, first as a hasson player and latterly as principle cornet Whilst they were all sorry to lose him from their midst they all wished him every J success in his future sphere- Tne chairman then handed Mr McLeod a beautiful silver mounted wallet, suitably inscribed, as a token of esteem from the members. Mr M. R. Varnham also referred to the loss sustained not only by the Society hat of the town in Mr McLeod's departure.
