BLOSSOM AND BUTTERFLY FAIR.

OPENS TO-DAY. The Blossom and Butterfly Fair, organised by the ladies of Knox Church, in aid of the church building fund, will be opened at 2 p.m. to-day by his Worship the Mayor (Mr P. L. Rollings). This long looked for event, which is the result of months of arduous and enterprising work on the part of those interested, will also ba continued on Thursday, commencing at i p.m. A representative of the Wairarapa Age paid a visit to the Drill Hall last evening, and was much impressed with the care and attention bestowed on every detail in connecting with the Fair A small army of energetic workers were busily engaged in arranging the numerous stalls and decorations and the result of their efforts is distinctly creditable. The interior of the hall has been made to represent a Japanese cherry grove in full bloom, with innumerable butterflies flivng around, and the effect is at once most artistic and pleasing to the eye. In the centre of the room is a beautiful flower stall, arranged under the supervision of Mrs H. T. Wood It is a most dainty construction, 'representing a lattice work summer house, into which are entwined creepers of sweet peas and lycapodium which blend to perfection. Ail round the wall 3 are the stalls, which are laden with a most profuse variety of tempting goods, not only ornamental but: extremely useful. A special feature of the decorative work is the refreshment stall, which occupies a prominent position on the stage, and which is in charge of Mrs Payton. It is at once evident that a great deal of time has been spent in this stall, palms.arum lilies and choice pot plants, are arranged in a most attractive style, while the tables are all decorated with pink blossoms and fairy lights. A large number of competitions have been arrranged, including 'spelling, recitations and singing for children. The pianoforte competitions are also exciting great interest, and there are over 100 entries in the cookery competitions. A mysterious conjuror has offered his services, and will provide plenty of amusement.
