A POLAR EXPEDITION.
Received October 19, 8.5 a.m. OTTAWA, October 19
Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Canadian Prime Minister,speaking at a banquet in honour of Captain Bernier, captain oi the Canadian Uovernment steamer Arctic, at Ottawa, stated that next spring the Arctic would be fitted for a Polar expedition.
Captain Bernier, added Sir Wilfrid, would be given an unrestricted commission. He could go to the Pole, or beyond—wherever there was land to be claimed.
