Y.M.C.A.

AN IMPORTANT MEETING.

NEW BUILDING AND FINANCE.

At thj Y.M.C.A. last night, Mr P. L. Hollwgs presiJed over what proved to be the largest and most interesting meeting of members held for some time past. It was a meeting called to discuss the new building scheme and the financial position of the Association.

After giving a brief review, of the work accomplished the secretary dealt with the finandal and numerical position. Numerically, the Association stood as follows:I—Fall 1 —Fall members 70; Associate members 59: Honorary members 20, and Boys Department 75 -a total of 224 Of these only 28 were in arrears. The membership campaign resulted in 88 new members—unfortunately only 44 had paid—although many of these were "good marks." The question of bank overdraft was then dealt with, it being £4 in excess of the beginning of the Association year and just over its limit, but outstanding subscriptions and rent were due amounting to over £3O.

A budget for the next year's expense was read, and after showing what had been done through the various sub-committees, a discussion upon the new building scheme took place* As a result of this di?cus'sioa the following resolution was carried: —That provided that the active members of the Association themselves ,make provision for £SOO within three months, payable within a year,, the Association recommends an appeal to the public to provide the additional £I,OOO essential lo the completion of the extension scheme.

Mr Hollingß himself promised to subscribe £IOO if the whole amount was raised. Mr H. Kummer £lO, and Mr Falla £lO, and various others, in addition to sums for the ordinary expenses of the Association. A long discussion arose on the present position of *the Association, the outlook for the ensuing quarter being considered far from bright. Such was the tone of the gather i«g, however, that earnest work may now be expected, especially with a view to placing the Association on a firmer footine.
