V.A.T.C. MEETING. DEAD HEAT FOR CAULFIISLD ~ CUP. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received October 16, 6.20 p.m. MELBOURNE, October 16. Caulfield Cup Day drew the biggest crowd ever known on the course, the day being fine. No spring meeting ever attracted a bigger gathering of Inter State sportsmen and "Flemington Week*' promises t© be the biggest racing meeting ever seen in Melbourne. Results:—
Hurdlea.—Cortax, 11.5, 1; Royal Malion, 10.11, 2; Cheval, 9.V, 3. W6n by three lengths. Time, 4min lljsec. Nursery Stakes.—-Tanaml, 7.3, 1; Rigadoon, 7 9, 2; Sweet Brew, 7.11, 3. CAULFIELD CUP. Aborigine (McLachlan) and Blue Book (Connell) dead heat 1 Bendil <Cameron). 3 Pi"k'un and Monodist were scratched. After the borse3 settled down Mindful led the field from Golden Slipper, Aborigine and Kerlie, with Kyeadgerie last. Rouding the hill the order was Mindful, Kerlie, 'Dunolly, Golden Slipper, .Thistlebrook, Post Town, Artillerie, Idyll, with Parsee last. Kerlier dropped back at the far turn. Trelo Vouoi then ran to the front, and soon led by two lengths from Kerlie, Golden Slipper, Blue Book, Flavel, Kyeadgerie, Artillerie, Aberdeen, Aborigine. At the distance the order was Trelo Vouni, Blue Book, Thistlebrook, Aborigine, Kyeadgerie, Pendil. A magnificent. finish, amidst great excitement, resulted in a dead heat. Pendil was a short neck away. Trelo Veuni was fourth, and Carl Dour fifth. Then came Artillerie, Kyeadgerie, Dunolly, Thistlebrook, Golden Slipper, with lolaire last. Time, ?.min 35sec.
Steeplechase.—Secret, 9.0, 1; Confederate, 12.7, 2; Comus, 9.0, 3. AlsO'Started— Squirm, Syringa, Earl of Castles, Boomerangl Won by four lengths. Time, 4min 44Jsec. Windsor Handicap.—Queen of Scots, 7.13, 1; Irishman, 10.7,-2: M'Culloch, 6.13, 3. Won by five lengths. Time, lmin 16aec. , Moora Handicap.—Marcus, 7.7,1; Burston, 8.9, 2; Perilous, 8.3, 3. There were'twenty-four starters. Son of the Marsh /made all the running and entered the straight from Malmsey, Burston and Perilous. Marcus made a fast dash and won by a neck. Time, lmin 42£ sec.
CHRISTCHURCH, October 16. Rose Nole, at 11.50 a.m., and Blue Ribbon, at 12.40 p.m., were scratched to-day for the New Zealand Cup.
The name ot Pukewai, 7.7, in the October Hack Handicap was omitted from the list of Masterton weights telegraphed from Wellington on Friday night last.
