LONDON'S UNEMPLOYED.

RELIEF WORKS USELESS.

Received October 17, 5.5 p m. LONDON, October 16.

The report of the Central Unemployed body of London 3mphasises the uselessness of relief work, which attracts, not the best type of unemployed, but those deficient in physique and capacity to work. The expenditure in with immigration has fallen from £40,000 in 190R and 1907 to £5,107 in 1908 and 1909, chiefly due to Canada's restrictions. Otherwise the immigration work is satisfactory. Single men sent to Canada in the first season have already repaid GO per cent of their advances.
