The Malaria Conference has opened at Simla. There are forty delegates present from all parts of India, and the Viceroy (Lord Minto) is presiding. It was stated that fever deaths in India during the las* decade had averaged nearly four and a-half millions annually. Lasl'year there were five and a-half million deaths, owing to an epidemic in the United Provinces and the Punjab. Mosquito extermination was largely an administrator's problem. This and the quinine remedy are the chief problems for discussion. Lieut-. Colonel Leslie, I. M.S., M.8., Indian Sanitary Commissioner, suggested special provincial agencies to distribute quinine.
