A terrific hurricane visited Florida fUnited States) and Cuba, and caused great devastation. Many small buildings in Havana, the capitaljtown of Cuba, were razed and there were many fatalities. The damage is estimated at £300,000. Ninety-five vessels were sunk on the coast near'Key West, Florida. The town was practically wrecked, the damage being appraised at £400,000. Martiai law had to be pro claimed because of the mob attemptng to raid the food shops.
