Mr R. Heaton Rhodes, member for Ellesm fre, has been offered and has accepted the position of Opposition Whip. He will act in conjunction witn Mr C. A. C. Hardy (SJwyn) who was appointed last session. The death is announced of Mrs Floyd, sen., of Hunterville, aged 92., Her husband, the late Mr Thomas Floyd, was the gaoler at Wellington gaol in 1831, and later kept an hotel at Porirua. Miss Roslna Buckmann, has baen engaged as principal girl for Mr William Anderson's pantomime, ""Babes-in the Wood," which is to be "produced in Melbourne at Christmaß. The principal boy will probably Miss Claire Rorriaine, a popular New York /artiste. » Mrs Sussin Millen. who arrived in Wellington in 1840, died on Monday ;at Horokowi Valley, where she had -lived for the greater part of her life. Her husband. Mr William Millen. ' pre-deceased her by some years. Mrs Millen, who was eighty-three years cf age, has left four sons (Messrs Gibson, David, and Charles Millen, •of the Fuilding district, and Mr -James Millet), of Horokiwi Valley), and four daughters, two of whom are j vtnarried and are living at Feilding. The R?v- J. Chisholm, Moderator >df the Presbyterian General Assembly, hfls received cable advice that Dr. Law has been appointed to Knox College, Toronto, and Dr Smith has laeen called to London* ■derry. The effect of this (says a "Duneriin Press Association telegram) is that of three candidates "nominated >in Britain for the vacant theological chair here only one. the Rev. Mr Dickie, remains eligible. Mr R. Ellison, who ha-s been secretary of the Central Dairy Com,pany, Canterbury, for the past thirteen years, and who has been appointed ..the Lon lon representative •of the National Dairy Association, will leave New Zealand to take up -his new dutieß on October 21st. At the annual meeting of ih company on : Saturday appreciative reference was made by the chairman of directors. Mr J. Barnett, to the manner in •which Mr Ellison had looked after >the interests of the company, and on behalf of the directors he presented Mr Ellison with a gold albert chain.
