QUARTERLY RETURNS. 'sP. 0, aggregate amount sued for £] : 99C Is Id, aggregate amount recovered £1,443 0s sd, number of applications heard in Court or Chambers 7, number of orders made (other than judgment summonses) 4, number of plaints entered 1:08, number of distress warrants issued 24, number of judg* ment summonses issued 39, number of orders made on amount of civil fees paid in stamps £lO3 lis, licensing fees paid in stamps nil. Criminal cases—Person taken into custody, summoned or apprehended, 71 males, 2 females, as against 213 males and 7 females for the previous quarter; discharged for want of prosecution or proper evidence, 22 males; dismissed on the merits, 18; committed for trial or sentence, 2 (males); summarily convicted, 40 mahs, 2 females, as against 188 males and 5 females for the previous quarter; fined, 30; imprisoned in lieu of fine or surety, 1; orders made, 7 males, 1 female; criminal fee paid in stamps, £l4 19s; fines paid in stamps, £39 3s; total, £54 2s. Twenty-nine old age pensions were granted, one refused, and ten are pending. At the Whareama Magistrate's Court only two sittings were held, presided over by J.'sP., five summonses were served within two miles and one outside that area. Two persons were taken into custody, summoned or apprehended, two summarily conviced, one fined, and one imprisoned in lieu nf fine or surety. Fees paid in stamps totalled £2 lis, criminal Jfees amounting to! lis, and the fines to £2.
