The first day of the Hawke's bay Jockey Club's Spring Meeting to-day was favoured with fine weather and a good attendance. The sum of £5.992 was invested on the totalisator as compared with £6,379 on the same day last year, or a decrease of £387. Eleven bookmakers were on the ground. Time, 3min 18sec. Maiden Hack, 7 furlongs. —Merem*re, 7.2, I; Waimfta, 7.4, 2; Elfish, 7.4, 3. Also started —Motukawa. Polynices, Danzel, All Trumps, Retort, Multiple, Scots Fusilier, and Stourton. Won by half a length. Time, lmin 23 3-ssac. King Edward Hjndicap, 1 mib 1 furlong.--San Istream, 9.0, 3; Elysian, 8.5, 2; Expansion, 7.11. 3.
