CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Tuesday. At a meeting of Totara Lodge, U.A.0.D., last evening, it was decided to vote £2 2s to the benefit fund for Mrs Harris. Bros. J. M. Nicholls,. H. Hart and W. W. Mansfield, were appointed a committee to interview Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P., in reference to the proposed Friendly Societies' Act. Two members were reported upon the sick fund, and one ! member was declared off. The funds of the local Brass Band have been augmented by the donation of £2 2s from Dr. Johnston (Patron). The Executive Committee of the forthcoming exhibition and sale of work met last evening, when encouraging reports were received from all quarters. The function is to be held about the middle of tne month. Mr and Mrs G. W. Deller returned home tnis evening from their trip to England. On Friday evening the Taratahi-Carterton Racing Club and Wairarapa P, and A. Society will welcome Mr Deller back at a smoke j concert in the Fire Brigade Hall. A meeting of the teachers of S. Mark's Sunday School was held last levening in. the Vicarage, Rev. R. presiding. The Superintendent (Mrs Wakelin) reported for tV.e September quarter that there were 106 scho?ars on the 1011, the average being 75, which in view of the wet quarter was considered satisfactory. Rou'ine business was dealt with.
