PAHIATUA NEWS.

' (Fro" 1 ° ur Resident Reporter). Tuesday. Mr W. Toss will informs me that the rainfall in Pahiatua for the month of September was 6.27 inches. Th*) heaviest fall occurred on the 19th inst., when 1.69 inches fell. The milk &upply at the Ballunce Company's creamery at Hamua this season is considerably more than that supplied in previous years, the daily supply at the present time being over 1,600 gallons. A very successful concert and dramatic entertainment was held at Pongaroa last week. Mr Sid Hughes, sou of Mr J. Hushes, of this town, arrived in Pahiatua this afternoon, after a twu years' absence in Australia. The ladies of Mangatainoka are arranging a mask and fancy dress ball, to take place on the 27th of this month in the Library Hall. Elaborate preparations have been made for the Poster Skating Carnival, to be held in the Drill Hall tomorrow evening, and given a fine evening there is sure to be a large attendance. The lochl band will render selections, and refreshments will be provided Mr W. Entwistle, who started business in Pahiatua as a cabinetmaker some nine months ago, has, since his arrival here, turned out splendid work and is prepared to execute orders for first class articles of furniture, with the best of well seasoned timber. Those requiring furniture would do well to call on Mr Entwistle and inspect some of his wo rkmanship. Mr D. O'Rorke,. clerk of the local Court, who has been seriously ill for some time past, is, I am pleased to State, now making rapid strides to> Wards recovery. The Pahiatua County Council will hold th.ir next monthly meeting on Saturday next. Mr Fred Hutchin?, who has been appointed Town Clerk of Woodville.

STOCK MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd , report on their weekly aala as follows: —There was a good entry of sheep and a large yarding of cattle, prices being well maintained, and maile as follows:—Sheep—Aged ewes and lambs, 13s 2d to 14s; 2 tooth wethers, 13s 6d, hoggets, good, 12s 3d; other hoggets, 5s lid to 9a Gd. Cattle-Bullocks, £5 2s 6d to £6 fis; dairy heifers, JE4" 15s to £5 ss; poor sorts, £2 10s to £4; dairy good, to £9 ss; other dairy cows, £3 to £4 ss; empty cows, £2 5s to £2 10s; yearling steers, £2; cows and calves, £2 6s. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their P.F.A. sale of to-day as follows:-We had only a moderate yarding of sheep and cattle, submitted to a fa ir , attendance of buyers. Prices all round were on a par with late values:—F.m. ewes and lambs, 16s Id; small hoggets, 7s Id to 8a Id; 2year steers, £3 lis; yearling steers, 355; forward cows, £3 10s; fat.heifers, £4; store cows, £2 to £2 8s 6d; cows in calf, £2 12s to £3 14s; good dairy cows, £5 to £8; springing heifers, £3 10s to £5 10s for those near calving; heifers and calves, £2 19s; empty heifers, £2 7s to' £2 12s. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held their weekly stock sale in theP.F.A. yarda yesterday, and report as follows:—Stock did not come forward to advertised numbers, no sheep being yarded. Our entry of caMis was confined to heifers, which sold from £3 lis to £4 lis. Our next sale will be held in oiir Mangahao Road yards, on Tuesday, October 12th.
