MASTERTON Y.M.C.A.
A SERIOUS HANDICAP. An important meeting of the Board of Management of the local Y M.C.A. was held last night, and in the absence of the President, Mr A. Hendry occupied the chair. The secretary reported that considerable progress had been made in the religious work of the Association, continued interest being taken in the men's meetings an } strangers' tea, and spoke encouragingly of the Personal Worker/ Class and the Boys' Bible Class, a newly sjtarted class. "The Debating Society still kept to the front with a fair average attendance, and it was reported that at the whole of the weekly meetings of the Association an average of over 120 young men attended. The Association membership was about 280, and out of this arose a serious obstacle, quite one hundred of tl.em being behind in current subscription?. This matter, and the report of the Finance Committee, created a long discussion as to ways and means, and it was resolved that every mem ber of the Association should be call ed together for a meeting on Monday, Uctober 18th, to discuss the financial position, at which meeting the full particulars of finance and a new building scheme will be forthcoming". The recommendation of the borrowing of £1,500 for extension work was negatived, as it was felt that the members of the Association should themselves j be prepared to do something before going to the public. It was determined to make strenuous efforts to get in the £SO which represented the amounts due to the Association, by the members on current account. It was pointed out by members that the Y.M.C.A. had the smallest list of honorary members of any Association in Australasia its own size, it having only fourteen, and that its | financial problem was the keenest of I all the Australasian Associations It was considered that it should have at least one hundred new members, to whom would be given all the ordinary privileges of the Association.
