AJ A- MEETING. ; By Telegrapfe-*-Press Association* i Received October 4, 5 40 p.m. i RANDWICK RACECOURSE, Oc. 4. The A.J.C. Meeting was continued to-day, with the following results:— The Shorts, 6 furlongs —PJush 1, Bright Steel 2, Haco 3. There were 1 nineteen starters. The winner, holding a good place all the way, ahot oug in the straight and won by two lengths. Time, lmin 13sec. New Stakes, 1 mile and 1 furlong-. --Sequarious 1, Patonatus 2, Provocation 3. There were eight starters. Provocation led for the best of the way, and was followed by Brookorg and Sheen. At the seven furlongs; post Brookong headed Provocation, and lead the New Zealander and Patronatus to the half-mile. Provocation was first round the turn. Patronatus Jed into the straight* followed by Provocation, Sheen and j Golden City. The winner came with an unexpected run at the distance, and won a good race by a length, two lengths being between second and third hoises. Time, lmi.i 54see. THE METROPOLITAN, 1J miles. Maltine, 8.4 (Osborne) 1 Olivaster, 7.7 (Lamond) 2 Golden Slipper, 7.8 (Hickey) 3 Hyman, Diplomatist, Silverhampton, Black Buck and Abbeyboy did not start. From a good start the first to show out was Maltine, who was followed by Hayfield, Didus, Lord Nolan, Monobel and Golden Slipper. Before reaching the mile post Hayrield took the lead from Gidyea, Maltine and Golden Slipper. Hayfield was still leading at the six farlongs, Gidyea being second and followed by Kerlie, Maltine and Golden Slipper. At the half-mile Hayfield had Kerlie ss his nearest attendant, Gidyea anu Goiucn S'. : rr° r » being in close attendance. Golden Slipper went to the front at the three furlongs Dost, followed by Olivaster and Kerlie, the rest of the field being bunched well up. Golden Slipper and Olivaster entered the straight on even terms, Kerlie, Flavinius and Maltine foil)wing in that order. Golden Slipper held command at the distance, followed by Olivaster. Maltine and Flavinius. Comiag fast, Maltine fought out a good finish, and won by threequarters of a length, Olivaster beating Golden Slipper by half a langth. Tims, 2mm 33Jsec. First Steeplechase.—Squirm, 10.8, 1; Severene 10.8, 2; Bulwonh 10 12, 3. Of tha six starters only three finished. Seymour was prominent to.the last obstacle, where hi fell. Squirm won in a canter by seven lengths. ■ Time, smin 48sec. Breeders' Plate. —Desert Rose 1, Gigandra 2, Precious 3. Twenty-two starters.. The placed horses were in the front rank, and led throughout. Precious lead Gigandra and Desert Rose into the straight. In a rattling finish Desert Rose won by half a neck, Precious a length and a half away. Time, Imin ljsec. Squatters' Handicap.—Loyal- Blue 7.7, 1; Grey Plume 7.0. 2; Black Buckk 7.5, 3. Twenty-one starters Won by a length. Time, 2min Bsec Received October 4, 9.25 p.m. SYDNEY, October 4. Prior to running second in tha Metropolitan, Olivaster was purchased by A. Casey, of Melb urne> for 1,000 guineas. HASTINGS TRAINING NOTES. By Telegraph—Press Association. HASTINGS, October 4. The grass track was in good order this morning for fast work, and the final gallops were interesting. Iney and Expansion finished together over seven furlongs, run in lmin 32sec. Master Soult and Elysian, striding freely finished together over six furlongs in lmin 17£ sec. Gold Lace and Truganint went the same distance in the same time. Scots Fusilier and Donzel covered six furlongs in lmin 19sec, the former having the best of it. Coleen Mary ran the first four furlongs with them. Vi easily accounted for Sandstream over a mile, left behind in lmin 4osec. The former had the best of the weights and was shoeless. Corazon and Forest galloped once round on the grass in two minutes. Corazon finishing six lengths in front. Waipunehu and Aberbrothock finished together over six furlongs in lmin 18Jsec. Nautiform strode freely over four furlongs in 50sec; she looks remarkably well. Ballyshannon and Mairi King fin* ished together in a six furlong spin on the plough, done in llmin 19sec. Meremere and Ngakau went four furlongs on the grass from a standingjjstart in 52£ sec. Mysticism, Reformist, Retort and Tattale filly started in straggling order from the five furlongs post. Mysticism finished first in lmin 7sec. Awha and Waimoe finished abreast after a five furlong gallop in lmin 51 l-ssec. Lord Kelvin and Bun'cum were given education at the barrier, afterwards sprinting four furlongs in good style. Winning Post held Entente and Montiform safe in a two furlongs flutter. Le Beau waa schooled once round over the hurdles at threequarter pace. Useful work was done by Bin?., First Gun, Comedian, Te Kainui, Parable, Interpreter, Maku. Tha> dore, Klypso, Motukawa and Her.).
