A TRUCE DECLARED.
1 TEfE WOOLBROnEES'' I SISPUTE,
SALES TO BE RESUMED*
United Press Association—By Electric Telegtttjiir Copyright. SYDNEY, October 2. A truce has been declared in th\? wool trade owing to the interven • tion of the leading growers.
The sales will be'resumed on
Tuesday. Meantime joint committees will discuss the points in dispute with a view to a permanent settlement. Received October 3, 5 5 p.m, LONDON, October 2. The "Yorkshire Post" says the Australian wool brokers not only aspire to do the whole of the selling, but also to regulate the offering of raw materials without consulting the convenience of those who have to buy in. The brokers seem to be losing the sense of proportion.
The trouble in the wool trade seems to have arisen through the recent formation of the Selling Brokers' Association, which desired to bring about certain alterations in the rules. The allowance to members of the Woolbuyers' Association of lib per cwt. for draft was objected to, and the brokers wanted a freer hand in dealing with breaches of the rules. Four years past a joint committee of brokers and buyers has had the settlement of questions of breaches of the rules, and has on many occasions imposed fines, mostly small, and in the great majority of cases on the brokers. This matter of imposing fines caused a great deal more irritation than it was worth, and brokers strongly protested against tjhe buyers sitting in judgment upon them.
