WELLINGTON LAND BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Wellington District Land Board held its monthly meeting on Thursday. The Commissioner, Mr J. Mackenzie, presided, the other members present being Messrs J. Dawson, C. J. Canton, H. T. Ellingham. A very large amount of business was transacted.
Applications for transfer of the following lands were granted on the usual conditions, and subject to a satisfactory report from the Crown Lands Ranger:—Sections 8 and 9, block 1, Mangahao, 200 acres, J. T. j Radpathto VV. H. Read; section 11. \ block 15 Makuri. 200 acres, A. Howell to C.J. Davidson; section 41, block 9, Mt. Cerberus, 49 acres, J. D. Milner to R E. Meech; section 5, block 1, Tiffin, 152 acres, J. Kiddie to G. Kiddie junr., section , 15, block 11, Makuri, 300 acres, M. j Qu'illinan to I. M. Waterman; j section 1, block il, Kaitawa, 515 j acres, J. L. Hastie to W. F. Rusling; section 20, block 1, Mangaone, 200 acres, Mrs Fraser to Z. G. Astwood; section 12, block 6, Mt. Cerberus, 82 acres, T. R. Hogg to E. A. Chatfield; section 16, block 11, ) Makura, 300 acres, T. W, Hughes to T. A. Morine. Subject to satisfactory report from the Crown Lands Ranger and to the usual conditions, the following subdivisions and transfers were approv-ed-.-Section 23, block 2, Mt. Cerberus, 1 acre, G. H. Gillam to Education Board; section 2, blocks 9 and 10, Tararua, 3 acres, S. E. R and W. Priest to Education Board. j Sub-leases weie approved as under, subject to satisfactory report from the Crown Lands Ranger and to the usual conditions:—Section 42, block 9, Mt. Cerberus, 50 acres, J. D. Milner to R. E. Meech; section 7, block 15, Mangaone, 200 acres, S; I H. George to J. Anderson (two acres ! arc to be sub-leased on usual condi- > tions. and provided sub-lessee is eligible and suitable). Mr F. E. Pethenck, lessee of section 38, block 1, Mangaone (Nirej aha Village Settlement), 49 acres, | applied to transfer to Mr Charles 1 Hall, and it was resolved to defer consideration pending further inquiry. | Willi reference to the proposed transfer of section 7, block 19, Mangahao, from Mr J. C. Monteith to Mr McFetridge (which was | approved in May, 1908, subject to the completion of the subdivision aand .surrender of a part as a site for a school), the Commissioner report- ' ed that, so far as he understood, the I Education Board and Mr Monteith ! were still unable to arrive at a settlement, and that the delay was militating against the interests oi Mr McFetridge, who wished the transfer to himself to be completed. —lt was resolved to give until nexl meeting of the board for the purpost of coming to a final settlement otherwise the transfer to Mr McFet ridge, without restriction, would b< proceeded with. ; Mrs M. M. Harris, in the estati of Mr F. E. Harris, applied t< transfer section 1, block 2 Tiffin 250 acres, to Mesrss Rayner an< Sons, and it was resolved to *v prove provided she obtains sui'abh endorsement to promissory i;c;tes She also asked that the payment o £34 9s, advanced for grass te:d i should not be demanded. It wa I decided that the amount should b< ' , paid before the transfer is effected unless the transferees are willing t give promissory notes for th amount.
Mr T. Coffin renewed his application to transfer section 158, Makuri Village Settlement, 17 acres and 20 perches, to Mrs Jane Powel, which had been withdrawn under a misapprehension, and it was resolved to allow the transfer to proceed in trems of the resolution of July 29th last. l .. ! Mrs' E. D. Lucas (nee Baucke) j applied to transfer section 53, block 1, Mangaone, Hukanui Village Set tlement, 26 acres, to Mr H. E. Baucke, and it was resolved to ap prove, provided residential conditions are complied with at once. With reference to the proposed transfer of section 23, block 5, Mount Cerberus, 100 acres, trom Mr A, K. Gillard, to Mr A. W. F. Kerr, and also of section 24, block 5, Mount Cerberus, 100 acres, from Mr A. F. W. Kerr, to Mrs E. A. Ireland, both postponed from last meet : ng, it was resolved to grant approval. With reference to the proposed transfer of section 1, block 8. Wai • rarapa (Tawaha Settlement). 123J acres, from Mr W. J. Cherry to Mr P. Harken, a further communication was received, and it was resolved to recommend to the Minister for approval. The secretary of the Afcitin Sawmilling Co , Ltd., applied for a license to float timber on the Akitio river, and it was resolved to approve the application on the usual conditions. The Commissioner reported that a portion of section 14, block 9, Huanearua (Tawaha Settlement) had been surrendered for a cheese factory site, and it was resolved to call in and amend the lease accordingly. It was resolved to approve of section 4, block 12, Retaruke 1, 13»
acres being re-offered as second -class land, at the ori:gnal price of £3O per acre. With referene to the disposal of section 3, block 9, Mount Cerberus, 369 acres, it was resolved to approve of the rental of the tempoarry occupation by Mr Burling, the late lessee, being fixed at £& per month, as from October 15th next, subject to a duly proportionate increase if he is paid for his improvements during such occupation. The board resolved to approve of the surrendreed small grazing run, 20 and 3, blocks 9 and 10, Ruahine, 2,755 acres, being re-offered for selection as second-class pastoral land at a rental of £l5O per annum. Messrs Smith and McSherry wrote with reference to the promissory notes granted for the purchase of grass seed for sections 18 and 28, block 4, Mount Cerberus, and it was resolved that if one half of the amount was paid, and fresh promis- \ sory notes for the balance payable on demand executed, they would be accepted on the usual conditions. Mr W. Page wrote with reference to his application for section 2, block 2, Ruahine, and asked that his deposit should be refunded, and that he be allowed to withdraw his application, as after seeing the land j he finds it quite unsuitable for his j purpose.—lt wai resolved that no action could be taken by the Board. The lessee of section 7b, block 16, Wairarapa, wrote with reference to the payments in arrear, and it was resolved to grant him till December 15th next to pay them; this concession to be final. Mr G. H. W. Priest, lessee of , section 21, block 1, Makuri, 6234 I acres, wrote applying for twelve \ months' extension to reside or to have exempt on account of there being no decent road, and also * as he was residing with his parents. V —lt was resolved to obtain a report from the Crown Lands Ranger. I I Mr E. Shanahan. lessee of section J part 8, block 6, Tiffin, Carrington Estate, 91| acres, applied to be allowed to surrender his interest. —It was resolved to recommend the request for approval. Mr J. H. Powell, lessee of sections 81, 82. 92, and 93, block 13, Makuri Township, 1 acres, applied to be allowed to give up the land, and it was resolved to declare his inteiest / forfeited, subject tojthe payment of i the rental in arrear at a later date. > Mr Powell's application to have the lease of sections 31, 32, 134, 135, 142 to 145, blocks 6 and 10, Makuri j Township, 6J acres, forfeited was approved. Mr Powell, as lessee of sections 56 to 62 and 3, Makuri Township, 3| acres, also applied to be allowed to give up the land, and it was resolved to declare his interest forfeited, subject to the payment' of rental in arrear at a later date.
