(From Our Resident Reporter). Friday. The want of a Fublic Hall was keenly felt at Makomakn on Wednesday evening list, a considerable number of trios? attending the farewell social in the schoolroom being unable to find room inside the building, the erection of a ball is mooted. The grouids and gardens of Mr Dougherty of Hukanui are being laid cut by Mr Andrew Eddie. Ms Dougherty's residence is e very fine one, and the improvements now being effected will make his place a spot of beauty. A farewell social is being tendered to Mr W. Russell and family, in the Hamua Hall, this evening. Mr Russell, who ha? been in the Hamua district for several years, has purchased a place it, Taranaki. The ladies of fvohunui are giving a return ball to the bachelors this evening. Speaking on the question of dock, ing lambs, a sheep farmer stated the other day, that although it was not generally known in New Zealand, at Home it was always considered that there was more mortality amongst lambs when <oc'ied about the time the moon was full. Tropical showers fell at intervals this afternoon.
Mr D. S. Ross has been elected captain of the newly-formed Rifle Club at Kaitawa. There is every prospect of the Club being a strong one, and up to the present I understand that 25 members have been enrolled, including one lady (Mrs David Crewe).
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co., Ltd , held a clearing sale of Mr J. Goggin's stock, etc., at Mangamaire, on Wednesday last Dairy cows realised from £2 to £B. 2s 6d; empiy heifers, £2 10s to £3 10s; yearlings, £1 Us; weaner calves, 4s 6d to lis 6:1; hoggets, lis 7d; implements and sundries sold at full market rates.
