TE WHARAU NOTES.
Prom a Correspondent,
The ladies of Te Wharau gave a return dance to the bachelors, last Friday night. Dancing was kept up till daylight, and the function was a great success. jiThe following contributed items:-—Mr J. Milne, song; Mr G. Mcintosh, recitation; Messrs Skipper and Shaw, cakewalk; Mr Keefe, sailor's hornpipe. Mr F. Cotter carried out the duties of M.'sC. Mr V. Richards, on behalf of the bachelors, thanked the ladies for their kindness and said that the night would long be remembered by <UI. There was a good number of visitor from Masterton, and other parts of the district present. Mrs Cotter carriedj>out the duties of sec* retary in a very efficient manner. Messrs J. Johnson and T. Skipper very kindly supplied the music, extras being played by Miss A. McGovern. Mr G. Mcintosh, the newly appointed schoolmaster, has taken charge of the local school,, and there is a decided improvement in the attendance of the scholars. He had already started to improve the school grounds and has gone in for a garden for experimental purposes. Docking on most of the stations about here will be starting in a day or two. Mr D. McGregor, of Hikurangi, held a church service on Sunday, and there was a large attendance. The weather this last week or two has been very springlike, and the grass is beginning to gxow. The roads out here are in very good order for this time of the year.
