SIR JOHN KNILL ELECTED. Received September 30, 11 p m. LONDON. September 3U. Sir John Knill has been elected Lord Mayor of London after giving satisfactory assurances in reply to a : question not to toast the Pope before the Ring on ceremonial occasions,. and agreeing that no denominationaliconsiderations should affect Mansion House charities duiing his year of'office. He also promised to attend S. Paul's and other churches according to ancient custom when the Sovereign was present.
