CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident neporter). Tuasday. The Salvation Army Corps at Carhrton are at present collecting funds for their annua! self-denial offering. A prohibition order was issued against a local resident in the Magistrate's Court this morning., on the application of the police. The old established Te Wharau mail service will continue to be despatched from Carterton, as a result of the efforts of Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P, and the Chamber of Commerce. The body of the missing man John Beard, who disappeared from the residence of his brother, at Carterton, on Saturday night last, was found lata this afternoon in a lagoon at the back of Mr Booth's mill. No particulars are to hand at the time of writing. It has been suggested here that the Borough Council should levy a dog tax. There are far too many stray dogs about the town, and at this time of the year they wander far enough away from town to be of annoyance to sheep breeders.
