At the Mart to-day, no less than 140 pigs were put up for sale, over 100 being sold at the following prices:—Weaners 8s 6d to lis 6d, small stores to 14s 6d, stores 19s to 225;~ sow with litter of seven £5 10s.
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd , have secured a site at Pongaroa and purpose building up-to-date saleyards at an early date. This will no doubt be pleasing news to the farmers of the Pongaroa and surrounding districts. Pollard's Opera Company will pay a visit to Pahiatua next week.
The lambipg this year throughout the Wairarapa and Bush districts has been exceptionally good, and in several instances very large percentages have been obtained from large flocks. I am informed that out of a flock of between 2,000 and 3,000 in the Wairarapa district, that 125 percentage of lambs has been obtained.
The annua! meeting of the Mangatainoka Cricket Club will be held on Thu/sday evening next. I understand that the Rexdale Cheese Factory at Mangamaire will be ready for receiving milk during the coming week. Mr D O'Rouke, who has been ill for some time, underwent a successful operation at the local hospital, and is now making steady progress towards recovery. Mr Alf Snowball, of Y.M.C.A. fame, will deliver a lecture in the Methodist Church on Monday evening. Last evening, in the Commercial Hotel, the friends of Mr J. Chalmers met to bid him farewell, prior to his departure to Australia. Mr Chalmers, who for some time past
has been associated with the firm of Chalmers and Molloy, motor and cycle agents, was presented with a silver mounted tobacco pouch from the firm and employees. Mr A. R. Molloy, who has now taken over the business, made the presentation, and expressed regret at losing his partner, who was leaving on account of his wife's health. Mr L. Zillwod, on behalf of Zillwood Bros, and staff, handed Mr Chalmers a silver mounted pipe and case, and wished him success in his new sphere. Mr Chalmers responded in a neat speech. Several toasts ware duly honoured, and songs were sung by Messrs E. Clarke, S. Parkes, A. Millet, and J. Chalmers. Mr W. Chalmers rendered a banjo solo, and also accompanied .the singers. Mr C. Cody made a good chairman. Mr and Mrs Chalmers left Pahiatua by the express train. Mr P. Tulloch, land agent, has succeeded in disposing of Mr J. M. Levin's house and jj-acre of land, at a satisfactory figure. A plain and fancy dress ball is to be held in the Hukanui Hall at an early date. A spring'flower show and bazaar, under the management of the Ladies' Guild of the Holy Trinity Church, Woodville, will be held in the Woodville Drill Hail on Wednesday, and Thursday next. Yuung and old will be catered for, with various attractions.
