FIFTY-FOURYEARS' SERVICE.
Long service medals are given to soldiers who serve with their regiments for a certain number of years, and the decoration is prized by those who Bhow their interest in the country's defence to that extent. Up to the present, however, no one has proposed a medal or honour of any kind for the man who faithfullyserves his firm for a lengthened period without change. But most people regard long service in that department as an honoured distinction, and the employer is' gratified In being able to point to such as an example of the good feeling between both parties. One of the persons pesent at the annual, picnic of the employees of John Sands, Limited, of Sydney, held recently, proudly, spoke of his 54 years' service with the firm. Beginning as an apprentice, he served through his term, then stepped up higher, and continued his work for over half a century. At the end of the 50th vear he took his indentures to the office that they might be endorsed by the management as proof of the length and continuity of his service.
