PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Wednesday. At the ordinary meeting of the Municipal Fire Brigade last evening, it was decided to try and increase the membership, as four or five members had recently left the town, which made the brigade short-handed. I understand that the daily supply cf milk at the Ballance Cheese Factory is about 500 gallons. A well-known farmer of this district states that stock during the past winter have done better than ,ever before. It is tl be hoped that there will be a good attendance of cricketers at the Pahiatua Cricket Club's annual meeting to be held in Mr East's Tea Rooms to-ir.orrow (Thursday) evening. To day the wind changed to southeast, and the spell of wet weather seems to have broken, The recent rains has brought dowu a few slips on the county roads, but no seri • ous damage ia reported. The approach to th? bridge over the Mangatainoka briver at Bridge road, Konini, has been temporarily re* paired, and milk carts are now enabled to cross the bridge.

The quarterly meeting of the For esters' Lodge was held last evening, Bro. Bain, C.R., presiding. There was a good attendance of members, and after correspondence had been dealt with ten nuw members were initiated. PAHIATUA RACING CLUB.

A well-attended meeting of the Pahiatua Racing Club was held in the Commercial Hotel lash evening, the President (Mr Breeds) being in the chair.

Messrs Naylor and Spriggins were appointed to work thfl totalisator at the forthcoming meeting. Some discussion took place concerning horses being galloped on the course proper witiiout permission, and a resolution to the following

effect was passed:—"That any horse training on the course proper without permission, be disqualified from going on the course for all time; a notice to this effect to be posted up at the course." Messrs E. B. Hare, H. McSherry and W. W. MCardle were re-elected a Finance Committee.
