The Borough employees have promised to give one day's work to lay the Square down in grass, which will be proceeded with as soon aa the weather is favourable. Messrs G. A. Burgess and W. JNorrell returned on .Saturday from a trip up .North. Speaking of the Waikato district Mr JNorrell states that that district will in time b* a very large dairying centre. He met several persons who formerly resided in this district, and visited Mr J. Kanby's farm at Ohaupo, where two families were milking 140 cows. Dairy stock was in good demand, springing heifers at Morrinsvilla bringing up to £9. As a dairying district, however, states Mr Norrell, it cannot be compared with the Paihatua district. "Waikato may have the climate, but the land," were Mr Worrell's parting words. Mr J. K. Carpenter has opened up a shipment of Boatock's and C. and J. Clark's special footwear. Particu ■ lars and prices are published elsewhere. MAKOMAKO NOTES. The farewell social to Mr W. Phillips, who has charge of the school here for the past ten years, is to take place on the 29th inst. A good programme has been arranged, performers from Pahiatua, Marima and Nikau having promised to take part. The committee set 'up to see what support would be forthcoming for the erection of a hall are making good headway and up to the present have £SO guaranteed towards the building. A good supply of milk is being received daily at the' local creamery, and alterations are shorMy to be made to the separator room to cope with the extra supply this season. The lambing season out here has been a very good one, and splendid percentages are reported.
