COMPLIMENTARY DINNER.
MR J. B. MOODIE ENTERTAINED Last evening, at the Marquis cf Normanby Hotel, Carterton, Mr J. B. Moodie was entertained by his Wairarapa friends in honour of his marriage, which is to take place at S. Matthew's Church, Masterton, to-day. There was a large and representative gathering of settlers from all parts of the Wairarapa, and Lower Valley. A number' of apologies for absence were received. The chair was occupied by Mr W. C Buchanan, M.P., who, after the toast of "The King" had been honoured, proposed that of the guest of the evening. In doing so, Mr Buchanan referred in eulogistic terms to Mr Moodie's many qualities. His many friends felt that they could not let the occasion pasa without showing in some degree their esteem and respect, and the speaker, on behalf of those present, wished him and his bride-elect every success and happiness. Mr Moodie briefly responded, and feelingly thanked them for their kind expressions, which he would ever cherish. Other toasts were honored as follows:—"Farmers' Interests," Mr D. B. Carrrick—Mr A. G. Pilmer: "Opposition Auctioneering Firms," Mr A. G. Pilmer—Messrs F. Evans and T. McKenzie; "The Army and Navy," The Chairman—Mr J. B. Moodie; "The Ladies," Mr A. R. Sclanders—Messrs W. Deller and S. Gawith; "The Press," Mr C. H. Cormack—Mr R. Roydhouse; "The Host and Hostess," Mr F. Evans. During the evening songs were rendered by Messrs H. W. Rishworth, W. Deller. J. Moncrieff, J. B. Moodie and F. Evans.
