Mexted, i Umutaoroa, was married to Mißs e Adeline Henrietta Olsen, youngest - daughter of Mrs Olsen, Dannevirke. r The ceremony was performed by the t Rev. J. Griffins. The bride, who was t given away by Mr Mexted, was ati tended by Miss Edna Mexted. The ; bridegroom was attended by his a brother, Mr S. Mexted, as best 3 man. A private cablegram has been re--1 ceived announcing the death, by s drowning, of Mr Frank Broberg, r brother of Chief Detective Broberg, • of Wellington. The deceased, prior ' to proceeding to Africa five years ago, was engaged in the Crown and 3 Woodstock mines in Karangahake. On arrival in Africa he waJ atr tracted to the Gold Coast, where.he worked as chief smith of a mining I company. The late Mr Broberg was 38 years of age, and had been mar'"' , ried but two years. MrF. W. G. McLeod, of the firm of Mes«r* McLeod and Young, has 1 been offered an appointment as conductor of an important band m New South Wales. The opening is such a lucrative one that Mr McLeod has decided to accept it, and to leave Masterjton early in November. The business will be carried on as usual by Mr Young, who has been able to make such arrangements as will facilitate Mr McLeod's withdrawal from the firm. Mr JR. M. Houston, ex-M.P. for Bay of Islands, and for many years chairman of the Native Affairs Committee of the House, was presented last Thursday with a purse containing a hundred guineas in appreciation of his eighteen years* representation of the district. Mr George Wilkinson, chairman of the Mangqnui County Council, who presided, said that as a member Mr Houston had carried out his duties with zeal, patience and industry. No one could hold up a finger against his political honesty and integrity, his fights being all upright and honourable. Mrs Jack, whilst having lunch with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs McNaughton, at their residence at the National Bank, Hokitika, on Tuesday, suddenly fell back in her chair and expired. She was in her sixty-ninth year. Mrs Jack was the widow of Mr McLean Watt Jack, a prominent resident of Hokitika. She leaves two sons—Mr Arch:- . bald Jack (civil engineer, at pre" sent engaged on construction works" in China), and Mr Robert Jack (of Messrs John Duthie and Co,. Wellington). The three daughters are married respectively to Mr A. S. Malcolm, M. P. for Clutha, Mr Park, solicitor, Hokitika, and Mr McNaughfton, of the National 3ank.
