(From Our Resident tteporter). Saturday. A social is to be held at Clareville od Thursday week in aid of a local resiJent. Mr W. Heap has offered to|prnvide the music gratis, and Missrs Patrick Bros, have promised t) assist with the refreshments. The annual meeting of the Car tertoh Cricket Club was held last evening. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.P.; President, Mr Mix; Vice-Presidents, Messrs W. Howard Booth, W. H. Booth, A. Gallon, W. B. Allen, J. A. Dudson, H. R. Bunny, A. H. Krahagen, W. Downard; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr L. H. Smart; Delei gates to Association. Messrs Smart [ and H. Hart; Management Committee, Rev, W. J. Elliott, Mr Hart and the secretary; Match Committee, Rev. W.J. Elliott, H. Hart and the captain. The election of captains •was held oyer until the first match The subscription was fixed at 12s 6d, ' ' and for member* under 18 years of ; age 7s 6d. It was resolved to open the season on September 25th. , Messrs B: Tranp, J. S. Laurenson 1 and Dr. Smyth were elected new members. Mr R. Seymour, of Clareville, fell from a cowshed yesterday which he was building, and fractured three of his ribs. In the Magistrate's Court, this morning, before Messrs Jas. Brown and G. A. Fairbrother, Justices of the Peace, Henry Bailey, alias O'Connor, alias Sutton, alias Martin, appered on charges of theft. Accused pleaded guilty, and was remanded until Wednesday for sentence.
