AMUSEMENTS.

"DRINK." To-night will witness the first presentation of the famous picture "Drink," in the Town Hall, Masterton, under the jojnt direction of Messrs T. E. Taylor, M.P., and Henry Hayward. Every detail of this human drama is faithfully depicted by foremost artistes oi the French stage, and their graphic delineation of the author's conception of human weakness requires no dialogue to ex plain its mission. The eventful life of Coupeau around whom this play is written supplies many thrilling inci dents for dramatic portrayal. Th? gentle nature of Gervaise is shown in strong comparison to the diabolical actions of the scheming Virginie, and the faithful Gouget appeals to everybody's better nature. This picture has everywhere proved a great draw, and its cinematographic qualities are excellent. The management confidently expect that its presentation here this evening will create as much enthusiasm and interest as elsewhere received, especially in Chriatchurch and Wellington, where it was shown to crowded houses for over a week. A MASCOTTE PLAY. It is said that every theatrical management has its "mascotte play." If this is so then "Home Rule" must be the "luck-bringer" of the Taylor-Carzjington Company, for it. has played it successfully throughout Australasia from Calcutta to Quetta.jfrom Honk Kong to Pekin. from Nagasaki to Tokio. A muchtravelled play is "Home Rule;" much-travelled players Mr Taylor and Miss Carrington. No doubt why "Home Rule" is such a favourite is because it appeals to both English and Irish, the good qualities of both nationalities being brought forward right through the play. "Home Rule" will be staged at the Town Hall un Wednesday evening. Seats may be reserved at Miss Rive'e.
