RACING.

MARLBOROUGH NOMINATIONS.

Nominations for the Marlborough Racing Club's Spring Meeting close with the secretary, Mr L. Griffiths, at Blenheim, at 9. p.m. this evening.

MASTERTON RACING CLUB'S SPRING MEETING.

The Spring Meeting of the Mas-ter-ton Racing Club is set down for decision on October 28th and 29th, and an attractive billot fare has been drawn up for the occasion. Of the sixteen events that find a place on the programme, the most important are the Masterton Cup, of 175 sovs, one mile and a quarter; Publican's Handicap, of 120 sovs, even furlongs; President's Handicap of 120 sova, one mile; and Stewards' Handicap, of 100 sovs, six furlongs. There is ample provision made for hacks, including two well endowed hurdle races. Entries close with the secretary,, Mr Hathaway, Masterton, on October Bth.

LOWER VALLEY JOCKEY CLUB.

Owners are reminded that acceptances and entries for the Maiden Hacic and Hack Scurry in connection with the above Club, close with the secretary at Martinborough on Friday, September 24th.

TUKF NOTES,

(By "Zetland.") The Porirua trainer, J. H. Prosser, will take njne horses to the Wanganui meeting, which takes place next week. The New Zealand Cup candidates that have been racing at recent meetings have not managed to score in minor events. This is, perhaps, only natural, for trainers would not have their charges "cherry ripe" now, when the big event of the year will not be run for another seven weeks. All Red, Sir Prize, Roosevelt, which have sported silk during the past fortnight are expected to be among the starters at Riccarton on November 6th. The Masterton-owned First Consul is putting up a somewhat unenviable record for running second. At the I Wellington meeting he ran second to 1 Dreadless in the Trial Stakse, and since winning the Maiden at Marton has run three seconds on the same course. On' the last four occasions he started a firm favourite. St. Brandon, who broke clown at the Taratahi meeting last year, is again \among the track workers at Opaki. He may while the tracks are springy, but later on a hard course may again cause him to be laid aside for an extended spell< . Lucretious is now being schooled over hurdles, and on Tuesday morning negotiated five obstacles in satisfactory style. Full Kate, a member of R. Knox's team, is doing slow work, and should be ready to compete at the Masterton meeting next month. The weights for the Lower Valley

meeting should be followed by a good response from owners. Visting train" ers will doubtless be pleased with the state of the Martinborough course, and a decidedly successful meeting is confidently anticipated. The Wairarapa Racing Club's newly formed track at Tauherenikau has been sown down in grass, and special efforts will be made in oraer to have it in perfect condition for the New Year meeting. The Trentham stable presided over by that successful trainer, J. Lowe, held a strong hand at the Rangitikei meeting this week. Sir Fricso scored in the principle event, and on the second day a stable companion, Iranui, won the September Handicap. At the same meeting J. H. Prosser was successful with Waimaria and Lady Medallist, both double winners, and Tawhaki, who won the Maiden in a big field.
