NEW ZEALAND TOURNAMENT.

AUCIKAND, September 15 The third day's play of the New Zealand Golf Championship meeting at Cornwall Park links was productive of some good contests and some surprises. The professional match was commenced first, but did not attract a great deal of attention, owing to the draws being such that the winners could be easily forecasted. F. G. Hood, the Auckland professional, was on his play to day, and would have done less than 80 had the match continued over the full course. Clements, the open champion, was also playing well It was expected that these two will meet in the final of the professional championship of the Dominion
The first round of the match play in the Amateur Championship of New Zealand witnessed the downfall of the holder, H C. Simth, of Dunedin, he being beaten by J. C. Bid will, of Wairarapa, in a sensational manner by 1 up at the 19th hole. J. C. Burns, the Auckland champion, unexpectedly defeated B. B. Woods, the Christchurch champion, by 3 up and 2to play. Arthur Duncan, of Wellington, beat Barraud, of Manawatu, by 4 up and three to play. It is expected that A. Duncan and Bidwill will have a close run for the championship.
