A CHANGE FOR THE BETTER.

To the Editor. Sir,—l have read with much pleasure the recent reports of Borough Council meetings, more particularly the report of the last meeting. The source of my delight has the attitude of the Bomugh Engineer. In the past the Borough Council appears to have been rather a ho'e and corner affair. Bill Smith wanted a pathway or a lamppost. So he went on to the Council, or else he got his friend Tom Jones to go on. Tom Jones or Bill Smith proceeded to work a scratch back policy with the Tom Joneses or Bill Smiths. The Borough Engineer was told what he had to do-and if he didn't do it look out for sparks. Presumably he did it. The present engineer appears to take a different line. He proceeded first uf all to carry out works that have resulted in a permanent monument to his own efficiency. Then he proceeded to tell the Bill Smiths and Tom, Joneses to go to blazes. The public are quite satisfied by now with the engineer, and whenever any Councillor tries to teach him his business and gets well rubbed for his pains the verdict (upon the Engineer) will be—"Well done thou good and faithful servant."—l am, etc., THE PUBLIC.
