NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 13. The New Zealand Golf Champion-1 snip Meeting opened at the Cornwall Park Links, to-day, in perfect weather. The links were in splendid order. Play was to-d«y confined to the first two rounds of the Open Championship and some good golf was shown. Clements, the Wanganui professional, led the first round with a score nf 80, that being five better than bogey. His nearest attendants were A. S- Duncan, Wellington, 82; F. G. Hood, Auckland professional, 82; J. C. Bidwill, Wairarapa, 82; A. J. Abbott, Wellington, 83; J. Forbes, St. Clair, 83; J. C. Burns, Auckland, 84; H. B. Luak, Christchurch, 85; and G. Martin, Wellington professional. 85. F. G. Hood and G. R. Crowley made the good score of 39 each on the home journey in the first round. In the second round F. B. Colbeck led with the fine score of 79. H. C. Smith, Dunedin, 82, and J. A. Clements, 82, were the nearest to Colbeck's score. A. S. Duncan, F. G. Hood, J. C. Bidwell and J. Watt, Dunedin professional, each made 84, while D. Hood, Christchurch professional, and B. B. Wood each equalled bogey. Clements, the present open champion, was leading at tne end of the day's play by four strokes, the leading aggregate scores being:—J. A. Clements, 162; A. Duncan, 166; F. G. Hood, 166; J. E. Bidwell. 166; W. B. Colbeck, 168; J C Burns, 171; A. J. Abbott, 172; H. C. Smith, 172; D. Hood. 172. The Open Championship will be concluded to-morrow, and the Amateur Championship then commenced.
