HOCKEY.

MASTERTON v. BLENHEIM,

A match was played on the Schoolgrounds, Masterton. yesterday afternoon, between a Masterton ladies' representative team and the Hinekoa Club,of Blenheim, The game was not a good exhibition of hockey. The local players lacked combination; th?ir right wing forward was continually out of her place, with the result that the Blenheim wing generally had matters all her own way; and the team did not seem io""get going" until well on m the second spell The Blenheim forwards played with great dash at times, and their backs were safe, hitting hard and determinedly. The local forwards showed better form in the second spell, and the backs generally, with perhaps one exception, played a safe game. A j number of breaches ot the rules escaped the referee's attention, and obstruction and "sticks" were repeatedly allowed to go unnoticed. The visitors' first goal was scored offside, while MastertJn's second goal was scored from a bully in the circle, which was a wrong decision. Just previous to the goal being scored a local player was off side, and the visitors should have been given a free hit, from which they would no doubt have cleared their line. Misses Mogridge and Rijey scored for vis ■ itors. Miss C. Easthope scored one of the goals for the home team, while no one appeared to know who scored the second, it being notched from a scramble in front of the goal.

The following are the teams to play in the match S. Matthew's Club, Hastings, against S. Matthew's Club, Mastertun, on the Schoolground, at 3 p.m., to-day:— Hastings: Goal, A. Blair; fullbacks, R, Davis, F. Price; halves, I. Davis, H. Heslop. W. Burne forwards, M. Mclvor, A. Musson, O. Tong, E. Roache, C. Heald. Masterton: Goal, A. Miller full-backs, C. Cole, F. Truscott; halves, F. Dixon, C. Cariey, P. Bennett; forwards, A. Barry, V. Sutton, L. Boyd, J. Berry, R. Hatch.
