' (From "~The Te Wbarau Riile Club held its opening meeting Inst Saturday, and the weather being fine a large number of riflemen and spectators was present. The Club has recently spent a good deal of time and money in preparing the .range for the coming: season, and the field telephone, which has been installed, was fully tested and highly appreciated by the riflemen. Mr Hep. Vcnnell fa to be congratulated on the success ot his plans in connection with the improvement of the range, which can safely bt> said to be one of the beat country ranges in the Nortn Island, and it is to be hoped th&t during the coming season some of the Clubs in the Wairarapa will find time to pay a visit to To YVharau. The shooting, considering that it was the beginning of the season, was very good, and prizes were won by the four top scorers. Prizes were pre sented by Captain barrer, Messrs Cotter and Venneil, and several valuable trophies are; to be shot for during the season. The following are the scores

Mr J. C. Cooper, Chairman of the Wellington freezing Company, held a meeting at Te YVharau on Friday last, when a fair number of settlers was present, many who intended being present were prevented by the very inclement weather. I understand that the meeting was fairly successful, and a good number of shares were taken up. The weather in this district has during the past week been the worst experienced this winter, and the mortality among lambs has greatly increased. !The wet weather has also had the effect of causing the road near Jackson's Creek to slip so much that iat is now positively dangerous for horses travelling down the hill, and it is to be hoped that for the benefit of the public that it will be seen to. - SIS The Bank View Estate, which was reported to have been sold last week, is,, I understand, not to change ownership. J5 Mr A. J. McGregor, a well-known farmsr in this district, has gone"to Rotorua for the benefit of his health, and it is to be hoped that he will come home greatly bsnefited by the change ■ Mr J. M. Grant, who has beei/re lieving teacher here for the past two months, has left to take over another school in the Wellington district. Mr Mcintosh will commence his du,l ties here on the 13th inst.
