It may not be generally known that the greatest candlemaking establishment in the world is in England. It is that of Vhick's I'ati:nt Candi.k Company, Ltd., with two other large factories, one at Battcrsoa on the Thames, and the other on the Mersey, netr Birkenhead., covering together thirty acres, and giving employment to about, 2,200 people. The leading position held by the company is shown not merely by their having received the large number of eighty-six awards at the principal International Exhibitions daring the past half century, but especially by the unique fact that live of these are Grand' Prix gained in the greatest candle-pro-ducing countries of the European continent —namely, in Antwerp in 1894, Amsterdam in 189(5, Brussels in 1897, and Paris in 1890 and 1900.
