SYDNEY DREADNOUGHT FUND.
SCHEME FOR DISPOSAL OF MONEY.
Received September 9, 9.15 p.m SYDNEY, September 9
At a meeting of subscribers to the Dreadnought fund, the Lord Mayor submitted a scheme for the disposal of the money subscribed by the public, amounting to £8,500, towards Dreadnought, but which was not now required for that purpose, the Commonweath Government having made other arrangements for naval defence. His proposal was that in order to commemorate tne wave of patriotic feeing which England's need drew forth, and which would be symbolic of the States' attachment to the Mother Country, the fund and accrued interest should be devoted to the building and equipment of a King Edward Naval College near Sydney for the training of Australian cadets for the Empire Navy as officers, engineers, naval architects, and maintaining one or more farms for training British lads in Australian farming. He estimated that the college and farm would each cost £50,000. Received September 9, 11.15 p.m. SYDNEY, September 9. The feeling of the meeting was favourable to the Lord Mayor's proposals and, deciaed to further con • sider the question at an early date. In the meanwhile the subscribers to the Dreadnought fund will be generally notified as to the proposals.
