POTATO BLIGHT IN TASMANIA.
NOT IN A VIRULENT FORM
Received September 8, 10.20 a.m. HOBART, September 8. Mr T. W. Kirk, of the New Zealand Agricultural Department, has presented an interim report in regard to the potato blight in this State. He finds that the disease is widespread, but, with two exceptions, not in 4 the virulent or rotting stage. Mr Kirk recommends compul-ory spraying, and prohibition of the use of second-hand bags for export, unless they are thoruughly fumigated. He suggests that a tax of two shillings an acre would provide funds for inspection by experts ap • pointed by the State.
