GUILD OF LOYAL WOMEN.

During tlu discussion at the Federal Council of the Women's Guild at Bloem fontjin on July 14th last, it transpired that in the early days New Zealand sent £IOO to the graves fund. Correspondence failed to show what special purpose the money was intended for. The Guild has maintained the graves in common with others out of the general fund, but New Zealand seems to be of opinion that New Zealanders graves have been somewhat neglected, although not affording instructions as to how the £IOO should be used, and in consequence New Zealand has diverted £7OO further collected for this purpose to the maintenance of the graves of pioneers who died in the Maori wars. ]t was resolved to reply, and write to the New Zealand press explaining that New Zealsnders' graves are being cared for out of the general j funds, and the £IOO stiil remains j intact awaiting instructions. i Two proposals have been received j from Canada. The one suggests J investing a certain amount in Canada i and sending the interest to be used for the maintenance of Canadian graves. The latter offer was accepted, ana the first proposal remains in abeyance. Victoria has sent £3OO, which has [ been placed in the hands of Lords | Selbourne and Methuen, as trustees, | but its particular use feas , not | yet been specified. a The report of the Federal Graves j secretary shows that the graves have { been well cared for during^ past j years. '" | i It was lully explained that the j I New Zealand graves had received j I the same reverent care in all the j colonies as bes!:owed on other graves, j and that there remained for allocation the £IOO sent by New Zealand. This sum riot having been used, as no reply could be got to letters asking how it was wished that it should be used, this money will now be allocated pro rata to each colony, and as full an account as possible of the graves work done for New Zealanders sent to the New Zealand thoiities
