PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Tuesday. PAHIATUA BOROUGH COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council was held last evening, Mr D. Crewe (Mayor) presiding. Mr A. E. Brooks wrote asking permission to burn lime on the Reservoir Reserve. —The Council decided it could nor. see its way clear to agree to the request.
A deputation from the Beautifying Committee (Messrs L. A. Herbert, W. I. Husband and J. K Carpenter) waited on the Council, and asked for a grant lor the purpose of putting wire netting round two of the squares, and erecting self-shutting gates. After the deputation had withdrawn the question was keenly discussed. The Beautifying Committee intended t,o dig up the two Squares, lay them down in lawn grass and plant a few plots of flowers. Several of the Councillors thought that one Square would be quite sufficient to do this year. Finally, the Council decided to grant the sum of £l2 10s fnr doing the work as requested for one Square only. It was decided to connect a flushing pipe to the Borough Reservoir, so as to be able to clean out the reservoir more expediently. 2 he Borough Overseer reported the sewer service and water service to be in good order. Accounts amounting to £lO6 16s were payment. "general. I understand that a return football match between Kohunui and Manga • tainoka is to be played on the latter's ground on Saturday next. Mr O'Rorke, the Clerk of the Court, is, I regret to state, confined to his bed with an attack of pleurisy, and it will be some little time before he can attend to his duties again. Constable Tanner is acting temporarily until a relieving officer is sent up. A very short sitting of the Police Court was held to day before Messrs D Crewe and R Smith, J.P.'s, when a few civil cases were settled, and a j prohibition order issued against a local resident. The Scarborough School Committee met last evening, when it was decided to hold a social and dance in aid of the School Fund? on the 29th of this month. The committee formed themselves into a social committee, and decided to meet on the 22nd to make final arrangements for the social. The statutory meeting of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company will be held on Friday, 10th inst., in Pabiatua. The Pahiatua team to play against the Dannevirke hockey team on the grcund oppDsite the Hospital on Saturday next will be picked from the fol lowing : —Crawford, F. Bolton, Howard, J. G. Swainson, Ff:hhci):<j C. Vv. Swainson. W. E. Collins. J. Bolton, Ulrich, W. J. Collins, White-acoft and Leth bridge.

The Mew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited report on their weekly sale held in the P.F.A. yards to-rlay as follows: ■—Owing to the very vet imrning no sheep came forward, but cattle came forward fully in excess of advertised numbers, and sold as follows Yearling steei'3 £2 14s; empty 3yr heifers £2 LGs to .£3 ss; dairy heifers £5 5s to £6; dairy cows £3 to £5 7s Gd; bulls 21s to 445. Messrs Dalgely and Co., Ltd., report as follows on their sale held in the P.F.A. yards to-day. Sheep came forward well up to advertised numbers, and there was a fair yarding of cattle. The hogget market showed a slight improvement. We quoteSheep—Good ewe hoggets 12s 2d to 12s 3d; wether hoggets 9s 9d to 9s lid; ewes with lambs at foot 13s to 15s 3d; fat wethers 15s 7d. Cattle—Yearling steers £2 15s; mixed yearlings £2 6s 6a; dairy cows £3 2s (id to £4 ss; springing beiiers £5 5s to £5 17s 6d. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their P.F.A. sale of to day as follows: —We had a gocd yarding of both 9heep and cattle submitted to a large attendance. There was an increased demand for sheep, the bulk of which were sold under the hammer. Cattle also sold well up to late rates; practically the whole of the entry changing hands. We quote—Ewe hoggets 12s 3d; wether hoggets 9s lid; mixed hoggets 9a 7d to 10s sd; others 8s 4d to 8s 6c). Foward springing heifers £5 10s to £6 15s; others £4 10s to £5; empty heifers £2 6s 6d to £2 10s; springing cows to £5; weaners 15s.
