PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Monday. A man, named William Morgan, was charged at the local Police Court on Saturday, with the theft of a silver watch, the property of J. Cotter. The accused pleaded guilty, and was fined 40a in default 14 days' imprisonment. A football match between Kohunui and Mangatainoka took place at Kohunui on Saturday afternoon, the home team winning by 8 points to nil. At the conclusion o± the game, afternoon tea was liberally dispensed by the Kohunui ladies. Ihe Ruabine Hockey Club (Dannevirlce) intend sending a team to Pahiatua on Saturday next to play a lonal team. The Pahiatua ladies have generously given their hocKey ground for the occasion. It is hoped to atart a hockey club amongst the man here next winter, as there are now quite a number of hockey enthusiasts in this town. No infectious diseases were reported in the County of Pahiatua during August. In connection with the Pahiatua Akitio A. and P. Society a ladies' committee is to be formed to deal with the cooking, fancy work and children's classes, to make alterations or additions to the programme, as they may think fit. I understand that it is contemplated to hold a two days' exhibit of horticultural and industrial exhibits in a,,-. LrilJ Hall in connection with w.p SVcietv. Additional lamps have been placed at the southern end of the town, and they are much appreciated by the residents in the vicinity. The Manager of the Bank of New Zealand (Mr Burgeßs) is at present on a holiday in Auckland. Mr Woodward is relieving here during Mr Burgess' absence. The Konini footballers will hold a meeting to-morrow evening to make arrangements for their social, which is to take place shortly.
