THE Wairarapa Age MORNING DAILY. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1909. AN ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING.
The enthusiastic meeting of leading citizens, held in the Foresters' Hail last evening, was indeed most satisfactory evidence of the keen interest that is being taken by Masterton residents in the movement which will probably make certain of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company's Freezing Works being erected on the Waingawa site. That there is very solid ground for the enthusiasm displayed goes without saying The establishment of the works referred to would be of immense advantage to Masterton as a whole—in fact it is difficult to conceive the establishment of anv other industry that would be more advantageous. In a number of recent issues we have dealt fairly fully with the proposal, but we would again impress upon our readers the substantial benefits that may result from liberal support being extended to it. At the meeting last evening the Mayor (Mr P. L. Hollings) placed the proposition before the audience in a forcible and careful
manner. Strong canvassing committees were appointed, and a complete campaign arranged. So far shares amounting to about £2,000 have been subcsribed, and, with this in hand the committees appointed should succeed in securing the necessary balance. It is very pleasing to r.ote the public-spirited manner in which the proposal is being taken up, and we sincnrely trust that the laudable efforts that are being put forward will be crowned with success.
