Friday. MANGATAINOKA CHEESE factory. A vpry pleasant socfcl wag held at the Mangatainoka Cheese Factory to-day, the occaision being the tormal opening for the third season. About 100 residents were present, inculding a large number of ladieß, and the chair taken by Mr W. M. Howell, who briefly explained the object of the gathering. Mr T. Rayner spoke at some length, and although not a supplier to the factory, he recognised bow the factory had prospered since it had started, and gave those present an idea of the growth of the Taratahi Cheese Factory since it was built some 17 years ago, and he believed the present factory at Mangatainoka would soon have to be enlarged. Mr Jacob Manson, Chairman of the Mangarama Cheese Factory, spoke in a similar strain to Mr Rayner, and stated that Mr Reeve?, the proprietor of the factory had treated the suppliers like srentlemen. He understood that the suppliershad had an opportunity of making the factory their own, but they had been well treated by the proprietor, and had been quite content to let things remain as they were. He advised the suppliers bring only a good article to the factory, and by so doing they would be benefiting themselves, as well as the owner. He himself: had reared caiven, and pigs on whey, , and had dono well out of them. Mr Vance said the dairying industry had reached a very advanced stage in the Dominion, "and there were a great many people who indirectly reaped a benefit from this industry. MrSterhhg, Mr Reeves' secretary at Mangatainoka, then stated that during the season 1907 2,907, 5661bs of milk had been supplied and 3,828,1231bs in 1908-9, an increase of of milk for the last season. An abundance of light refreshments were then handed round by the ladies, and during the afternoon songs were rendered by Mrs Davin and Mr Goodall, and recitations by Messrs Petherick and Walsh. Before dispersing Mr Vowel 1 i thanked Mr Reeves for the pleasant afternoon, and three cheers were lustily given for that person, the secretary and chairman also receiving one. ' .' GENERAL.. The Pahiatua District High Schoo broke up tHs afternoon for the customary week's holidays. A hockey match on skates at the Drill Hall last evening caused considerable excitement, and Jwas won by "Goldie" Mexted's team by 4 goals to 2. The youths' race, run in heats, was won by young Grinlintpn. The usual meeting of Lodge Pahiatua, U.A.0.D., was held last evening, Bro. Swiggs presiding. There was one candidate proposed for membership, • and ordinary business was transacted. A successful alarm practice was held last evening, bfy the local Fire Brigade. The Mangatainoka Football Club are holding a social on the 15th of this month, when the trophies won by the various players during, the past season will be presented. Mr J. G. Tait, the newly appointed manager of the Mangatainoka cheese factory, was formerly with Mr H. Adamson, now of Nireaha, and formerly of Greytown. / The funeral of the late Mr T. Delahauty,. of Konini, took lace this afternoon, and was largely attended.
